GLORIA TANCHELEV the Piercings 1994-96
This series of paintings is concerned with ritual, repetition and number.
The paintings are up to 8’ of fluctuating iridescent color and light incorporating large industrial objects of steel and pvc. Suspended in these large fields of color and light, the heavy industrial objects appear weightless.
The objects project into the viewer’s space and open to the energies of the voids behind. Hung as an installation, these paintings charge the architectural volume of the white cube.
